Taking portraits
As a class, we were given the task of taking a portrait of a person, making conscious decisions about the lighting and composition of the photograph, as well as the context and reasons behind the photograph.
When I take portraits, I prefer to allow the subject to be comfortable and open, and take the photo when they aren't "aware", as it were. Personally, I think that it makes the portrait feel more personal and more about the personality, compared to when the subject poses or is "aware" that they're being photographed. |
The picture that i decided to submit was this one, of my mums friends parents. I decided on this picture as i felt there was a range of colours in it, and both of their expressions fit the atmosphere that i was aiming to capture. I also chose them as my subject because

My portraitsI took my portraits at a party, which helped to fit into having subjects that were comfortable and open, given the setting (and a few drinks). Throughout the party I kept taking photos of people, using a mix of my 'portrait' approach and a 'street' approach, using quick snaps and more organised shots.
